Strong oxidant, water or humid air will cause combustion and explosion. Mixing with alkaline substances can cause explosion. Exposure to organic matter may cause combustion. It will decompose and release irritating chlorine when heated, exposed to acid or sunlight. It is mainly used for bleaching pulp in paper industry and bleaching cotton, linen and silk fabrics in textile industry. It is also used for sterilization and disinfection of urban and rural drinking water and swimming pool water.
